Visioning the Public Space in Paueru Gai (Powell Street Festival Society)

PSFS seeks to memorialize our history in the DTES without perpetuating the colonial act of silencing other narratives. During our online event, Paueru Gai Dialogues: Monumental Reckoning (December 2021), artist and landscape architect Kelty McKinnon talked about approaches to commemoration in Japan; for example, a colour to honour a season, a lesser-known creature is designated as a national treasure, etc. In dialogue with its stakeholders, PSFS explores this concept as a tool to discover an innovative approach to commemorating our complex Japanese Canadian history in the DTES. 

 パウエル祭協会は、他の物語を封じるという植民地的な行為を繰り返すことなく、バンクーバーのダウンタウン・イーストサイド（DTES）における我々の歴史を記念することを目的としています。オンラインイベント「Paueru Gai Dialogues」の中で（2021年12月）、アーティストで造園家のケルティ・マッキノンは、日本での記念に対するアプローチについて話しました。 

例えば、季節を称える色、あまり知られていない生き物を国宝に指定する、などです。パウエル祭協会はその出資者との対話の中で、DTESにおける複雑な日系カナダ人の歴史を記念する革新的なアプローチを発見するツールとして、このコンセプトを探求しています。
