Do you have any leftover yarn from knitting projects that you completed long ago, but you are still holding on to like my Obaasan?  Please donate your remnant yarn to a public art project to take place at this year’s Powell Street Festival.  No ball of yarn is too small!  Your remnant yarn will become part of a meaningful community-based art project exploring Japanese Canadian and First Nations histories.  Join us at this year’s Powell Street Festival to see how your leftover yarn comes to life.

Please drop off your yarn at the Powell Street Festival Society office at 410- 111 West Hastings Street between 10 am and 6 pm, Monday – Friday.

If You Lived Here… is a participatory public art project at this year’s Powell Street Festival, July 30 and 31, that invites passersby to weave and share a response to: Do you live here in this neighborhood?  Did you or your ancestors live here?  The project honors both the current and historical residents of the Downtown Eastside (DTES) and the complex intersection of social histories of Coast Salish and Japanese Canadian communities.
