3rd Annual Setsubun New Year Event
Sunday, February 2 | 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM
Oppenheimer Park | 488 Powell St.
FREE Event
Join us for our annual community care event, Setsubun (節分)! This special event will feature a sacred fire, held in collaboration with local Indigenous leader, Elder Veronica, to honour the connections between our communities. We’ll also honour Elder Clint, practice mamemaki (豆まき), and a warm and comforting meal of Japanese curry rice will be served! (Mamemaki is a traditional Japanese ritual, where roasted soybeans are thrown at an oni (鬼, demon) to drive away bad luck and welcome good fortune for the new year.)
This is a family-friendly event, and everyone is welcome!
Thank you to Oppenheimer Park, Vancouver Japanese Language School & Japanese Hall, Carnegie Community Centre, City of Vancouver, and WePress for their support of this event.
