Join us for elder Veronica’s Sacred Fire, special appearances and a community meal of Japanese curry rice. This New Year’s event features a nod to Setsubun traditions like mamemaki, alongside Powell Street Festival twists as we celebrate a turning point towards a new season at this FREE event on Saturday, February 3.

About Distro Disco: Distro Disco is a mobile free store redistributing material goods to unhoused neighbours in Vancouver’s East Side. We operate on values of mutual aid values accept material and monetary contributions on the basis of community care.

Contribution list: handwarmers, wool socks, ponchos, tarps, tents, sleeping bags, and other winter/rainy season supplies. Monetary contributions are accepted via e-transfer at distrodisco1312@gmail.com.

We stock the mobile free store according to community needs! We only accept items on our wishlist. Please ensure items are in working condition, clean, & prepared for use.

Location & Directions

This event will take place in Oppenheimer Park, on Powell Street between Jackson and Dunlevy Avenue—the site of the Powell Street Festival and some of our off-season events. There are many options to get here, and we encourage you to consider carpooling, walking, biking, or taking public transportation.

By Bicycle

Oppenheimer Park is located one block south of the Powell/Alexander bike route. View the City of Vancouver’s bike route map here.

By Public Transport

Bus

  • Bus routes 003, 007, 209 stop at WB Powell St. @ Jackson Ave (stop 50515) and EB Cordova St. & Dunlevy Ave. (stop 50426)
  • Bus routes 14, 16, 20 stop at WB E. Hastings @ Jackson (stop 50506) and EB Hastings @ Gore (stop 50935) and are a short walk to the festival

SkyTrain

  • 17 minute walk from the Expo and Canada lines, as well as SeaBus and West Coast Express, at Waterfront Station
  • 20 Minute walk from Expo Line at Stadium-Chinatown
