All Day Programming

Inspired by Japanese wind phones, this interactive phone booth and mailbox installation is a portal for reflection and remembrance. Make a symbolic call, “send” a postcard, or write names and messages to past loved ones and ancestors.  Explore the spoken and unspoken, leave an offering in a way that feels right to you. 

After visiting, you’re invited to rest in Kome’s Room, an intergenerational space to decompress before returning to the festival. 

The Wind Phone was first introduced to Paueru Gai by Patti Ayukawa in 2025. The stewardship of this installation has been graciously entrusted to the Young Leaders Committee. 

Artist Biography: The National Association of Japanese Canadians Young Leaders Committee is comprised of young Japanese Canadians from across the country who are leaders in their respective communities. Current committee members are Alex Okuda-Rayfuse, Djuna Nagasaki, Emily Gleave Higa, Rebecca Keindel, Sorcha Gibson, Miku Kawashima, Hanna Knudsen, Hanako Teranishi, and Niina Dubik.
