Vancouver Mikoshi Rakuichi 晩香波神輿の会楽一

Powell Street Festival 2024 the largest Japanese Festival in Canada

Rakuichi plays Ohayashi, the traditional Japanese musical accompaniment for Matsuri, using Taiko, Fue (Japanese flute), and Kane (Japanese gong). At the same time, they perform Shishi-Mai (Japanese Lion Dance), a symbol of good health and fortune. After the performance, they carry Mikoshi, portable shrines, together with volunteers and visitors. Those interested in the Japanese festival atmosphere are warmly invited to come and enjoy Omatsuri together.

Rakuichi is an Omikoshi (portable shrine) group with a history of over 20 years in Vancouver. They carry Omikoshi, an essential part of the Japanese festival, together with participants, and they perform Ohayashi music and Shishi-Mai Lion Dance to uplift the spirit of the celebration.

Join Rakuichi in carrying the Mikoshi and wishing for good health and fortune in the year ahead.
