Vancouver Japanese Language School-Japanese Hall: 3rd Floor
The presentation will shine a spotlight on the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre’s Tomoshibi (“Lighting the Way”) five-day tour of sites of internment. The impact of the tour was immense, with the presenter feeling liberated from the “Sansei guilt” of not learning about her parents’ wartime experiences while they were still alive.
About the Presenter: Sachiko Okuda is a sansei whose parents were interned in Tashme and Bay Farm. A community volunteer in Ottawa since the successful campaign for Japanese Canadian redress in the 1980s, she is passionate about public history and the sharing of our stories.
