All Day Programming

Inspired by Kome Nagasaki’s Momiji residence, Kome’s Room is a place where the door is always unlocked, and you are always welcome. In this intergenerational space for grounding, connecting, and recharging, you are invited to slow down, pause, and just be together. Sit and relax, reconnect with old and new friends, make postcards, or learn to play gaji. 

Kome’s Room is an offering from the NAJC Young Leaders Committee, intended as a peaceful refuge from the broader festival environment, and a transition space before and after visiting the Wind Phone and Post Office next door. 

Events:  Join Djuna Nagasaki and Hanako Teranishi on Sunday, August 2nd @ 12:00-1:30 PM in Kome’s Room (VJLS #413) for a community arts workshop in which participants will create postcards for absent loved ones, intended to be left as symbolic offerings at the Paueru Gai Post Office. Participants are asked to stay for the entire session, as a modified healing circle will follow the activity. Space is limited and intended for Japanese Canadian/Nikkei-identifying individuals.

Artist Biography: Djuna Nagasaki offers Kome’s room with support from the NAJC Young Leaders Committee. Djuna is a mixed gosei currently residing on Treaty 13 land as an MA student in Anthropology at the University of Toronto. Kome was her great-grandmother and who she seeks to honour in this installation.
