Vancouver Japanese Language School-Japanese Hall: Room #416
The Intergenerational Wellness stream of the JCLS grant program was specifically designed to support Japanese Canadian individuals and families in addressing and healing from the intergenerational impacts of racial trauma resulting from British Columbia government actions in the 1940s. As a follow-up initiative, JCLS contracted Lucy Komori to conduct a study gathering feedback from successful grant recipients. This presentation shares the heartfelt responses from 54 interviewees as they revisited their family stories and broader Japanese Canadian histories.
About the Presenter: Lucy Komori has been involved in the JC community for more than 50 years, first through PSF and Katari Taiko. More recently, her short film Tsunagu about intergenerational perspectives on being Japanese Canadian was nominated for Best Director, Cinematography, and Short Documentary at the 2024 Vancouver Asian Film Festival.
