JCCC’s Sedai Oral History Workshop

Vancouver Japanese Language School–Japanese Hall: 4th Floor

バンクーバー日本語学校並びに日系人会館:4階

We will provide practical information and hands-on experience with interview techniques to empower Japanese Canadian community members to become oral historians. Topics covered include how to craft interview questions, active listening for best results in story gathering, what equipment to use and how to use it, as well as discussions around ongoing consent. If you’re considering interviewing a relative or loved one, this workshop is for you!

About the Facilitator: Karen Suzuki has been working with the Sedai Oral History Collection since January 2025. Before joining the JCCC Heritage Team, she produced and directed several film projects, including a documentary about being half Japanese for which she interviewed her nisei grandparents. This event requires prior sign up, register here.
