The Centennial Park Tea House Project, funded through the Japanese Canadian Legacies Fund and in partnership with the Mission Community Archives, will create a BC Heritage Site in the form of a park amenity inspired by Japanese tea house tradition and culture. When open, the tea house is intended primarily as an open-air space that houses an interpretive exhibit about Mission’s pioneering Japanese Canadian farming families, but is also intended for small open-air gatherings and performances. Designed by architect Shinobu Homma, the Centennial Park Tea House will be a permanent reminder of the vital contribution Japanese Canadians had in the settling of the City. 

About the Presenter: A creative community builder, Mark Haney took on the newly created role of Manager of Arts and Culture for the City of Mission in December 2022.
