in the wake of a sleeping machine
PSFS is proud to co-present in the wake of a sleeping machine, a contemporary dance performance by Japanese–Canadian artist, Shion Skye Carter, running September 4–7 in Vancouver. Inspired by the Ghibli film Howl’s Moving Castle, dancers move rhythmically as a conjoined globular form, each body a cog in a machine unaware of their dependence on one another. They’ve moved this way for eons; the light is just now illuminating this static machine. One cog breaks out, shattering the cluster. In its ruin, each piece gains sentience.
Performances: September 4-7, 2025, 7 pm at Morrow (910 Richards St, Vancouver)
Co-presented by Odd Meridian Arts, and SUM Gallery.
