Hanami: Cherry Blossom Picnic 2024

Join PSFS under the spring cherry blossoms for a taiko performance, Japanese craft making, and a hot meal of Japanese curry rice. Fold your hopes and wishes into paper craft cherry blossoms and create rainy weather wards, called teru teru bozu! All materials provided. Lunch will be served shortly after the opening remarks. At 1:00PM, Canada Miyake Taiko Kai will be putting on an exhilarating taiko performance. 

Canada Miyake Taiko Kai is an official branch of Miyake Jima Geinou Doushi Kai from Japan, an organization based on promoting and preserving this powerful traditional drumming popularized worldwide. Canada Miyake Taiko Kai is a taiko club that trains, practices and performs Miyake drumming.

Location

Hanami will take place at Oppenheimer Park, in Vancouver’s Paueru Gai (Downtown Eastside) area. Located on the 400-block of Powell Street, between Dunlevy and Jackson Ave, Oppenheimer Park is also the site of our annual Powell Street Festival.
