Please join us for an update on the background, proposed development, and continuing campaign to save this historically important building and the social housing it contains.

If you can’t make it, please visit the building at the 38th Annual Powell Street Festival on Sat., Aug. 2nd and Sun., Aug. 3rd to find out more about what’s happening and how we can save this building.

The pressure of development in the neighbourhood is escalating. Buildings like the Ming Sun – Uchida Building (one of the 20 oldest buildings in Vancouver) are in a precarious place – they could be lost at any moment. Groups like the Ming Sun Benevolent Society and Friends of 439 need our help and support. It is a critical time for Japanese Canadians, both locally and across Canada, and for all Vancouverites, who care about how our history will be remembered in the Powell Street area. If you are interested in being a part of these discussions, and helping to work to preserve our history in a way that is respectful to the First Nations, low-income, and marginalized communities that reside there now, please contact friendsof439[at]gmail.com.
