All Day Programming

Undertow / 潜流 – August 1/2 2026 explores the quiet forces that shape memory, intuition, environment and family lineage. The installation brings together Nishikawara’s recent works including family images suspended as Cyanotypes on silk, Takuhon (stone rubbings) from ancestral gravestones in Japan, Gyotaku (fish prints), and Tenugui textiles created using de-commissioned fishing nets, seaweed, and plant materials. 

Artist Biography: Paula Nishikawara has deep connections to both Canada and Japan, her work spanning countries, oceans, cultures and history. Her art employs elements, techniques and materials relating to Japanese culture that reveal discovery stories about her lineage and historical connections to art making. Her facilitation of hands-on community workshops deeply inform and frame her work and has become a shared experience of inquiry, discovery and tactile processes.
