Southern Wave Okinawan Music and Dance Society, founded in 2020 as a nonprofit during the pandemic, is dedicated to celebrating and sharing Okinawa’s vibrant cultural heritage. Through spirited performances of min’yō, classical and popular songs accompanied by the Sanshin (Okinawan three‑stringed banjo) and graceful Ryukyu Buyo (traditional Okinawan dance), the Society enriches Vancouver’s multicultural landscape. In addition to delighting audiences with music and movement, Southern Wave fosters connections between Okinawan artisans and performing artists, bridging craft and performance. They will have a special guest artist from Okinawa, Japan, further deepening the authenticity and cultural exchange of their programs. 

サザンウェーブの目的は、三線、沖縄民謡、琉球舞踊への情熱と喜びをコミュニティと分かち合い、文化の多様性を促進することです。豊かな沖縄の芸術と文化を探求することで、多文化主義を讃えます。サザン・ウェーブは、カナダのコミュニティに沖縄文化を体験する機会を提供するため、毎年三線の日などの文化イベントを開催しています。 

サザンウェーブ沖縄の唄と踊り愛好会は、琉球王国を訪れた中国の冊封使を歓迎するために中秋の名月に踊られた琉球古典音楽の花笠踊り・四つ竹を披露します。また、沖縄を代表するミュージシャン、古謝美佐子作の子守唄である童神を沖縄三線とピアノで演奏します。さらに、又吉一族が発展させた沖縄の伝統武術である又吉古武道を紹介し、棒やエーク（櫂）などの武器を使った型の実演を行います。
