Composer Rita Ueda talks about her cantata Debris, inspired by the 2011 tsunami and the debris that washed up along the west coast of North America – Thursday, May 3rd at 7:30pm.

Rita Ueda is a Japanese-Canadian composer and sound designer based in Vancouver. She is currently a sessional instructor at Simon Fraser University. Her compositions have been performed by the Vienna RSO, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and many other musical ensembles around the world. Winner of the coveted 2014 Krzysztof Penderecki International Composers’ Competition in Radom, Poland, Rita has been awarded numerous international prizes. Join Rita to learn about how historic events, such as the 2011 earthquake and tsunami have shaped and influenced her work.
