13'2” Between Us — Cindy Mochizuki

13'2” Between Us | Saturday & Sunday, March 1 & 2 at 7 pm (Doors Open at 6:45pm) | Vancouver Buddhist Temple, 220 Jackson Avenue
Powell Street Festival Society is proud to co-present 13’2” Between Us, an immersive multi-media performance set inside the gymnasium of the Buddhist Temple.
Sliding-scale tickets $15-$50.
13’2” Between Us is an intimate experience through radio play, choreography and animation set within a multi-media installation created for the gymnasium of the Buddhist Temple. The new work explores the call and response of letters and poetry, both real and fictionalized, that fill the gap between two siblings (Mochizuki’s paternal grandfather and his brother, a pole vaulter placing 5th 1932 Summer Los Angeles Olympics). The siblings are separated by the large body of water; the Pacific Ocean and the impact of WWII on their fate and livelihoods. Their stories intertwine with the sound waves of two other exiled characters: a translator (Shiho Sakanishi) and a radio disc jockey (Tokyo Rose).
