An Afternoon At The Movies: Script Reading with Vivien Nishi

Vivien Nishi Matsuri Summer Festival Japanese Event Vancouver Powell Street Festival

Vancouver Japanese Language School-Japanese Hall: Tatami Room

Led by film industry veteran Vivien Nishi, An Afternoon at the Movies is an interactive script reading and development session centred on a screenplay rooted in Japanese Canadian history. With over thirty years of experience in art direction and design, Nishi presents this first draft script as a design prototype, meant to be tested, shaped, and refined through collaborative feedback. This open table read invites participation from both actors and audience members. The host will narrate the action and descriptions, while actors read character dialogue. After each scene, feedback is welcomed in a roundtable format to address issues of structure, plot, and character development, as well as cultural and historical accuracy. The session will be approximately two hours in length, with seating for eight script readers and additional space for audience members. All sessions and feedback will be recorded to support future rewrites.
